Which hotel in Hong Kong ?
Discussion
The wife wants a trip to HK and given that I owe her large I am going to have to roll over and pay up. We are looking for a nice hotel close to all the transport links so we can do the tourist things, the shopping thing and the night market things. I've never been there and she hasn't been for 22 years so everything will be new to us. As such we are not sure which side of the bay to locate ouselves on and have come up with these two to start with.
The Excelsior on Causeway Bay
The Langham on Peking Road Kowloon
Both look nice and the rates are acceptable as I'll pay c£200 a night, more if something else is suggested
Looking to go first week in June unless there is a reason to avoid the area around that time.
So let me have your thoughts........

For an extra 50/60 quid a night consider the Peninsula - it's still pretty special and you can ogle the fleet of Rollers over breakfast and afternoon tea in the lobby.
If you're willing to push the boat out slightly, you might consider their Suite Life promotion - two nights for roughly £600 (Second night free). Mrs L loved it.....

The best of the three is the Marco Polo Hongkong, which is closest to the waterfront overlooking Hong Kong Harbour.
You can get a very nice room there for just over £100 a night. There used to be a fantastic American restaurant there called Gripps, which has yet to be beaten in the quality of it's fillet steak, but they've replaced it with a Chinese/Italian fusion restaurant.
It's yard from the Star Ferry to the Island, buses to Stanley Market and Repulse Bay stop right outside, and the nearest MTR (underground) station is about a 5 minute walk.
Cheers for the input so far, will have a rummage around the web sites and see what's on offer.
I'd not considered the Mandarin but having used the one in KL I'll certainly have a look at the HK one. I'll also have a look at the Peninsular as I'm a regular at the Bangkok one and might be able to negotiate a deal based on that.
The Marco Polo also sounds good.....but the Mandarin in KL is also attached to a superb shopping centre and Mrs GG found out you could shop and have things sent direct to your rooom
Keep 'em coming.

The Sheraton is good, we stayed there in November. Having booked a Deluxe Harbour View Room we got a really good deal on arrival on an upgrade to a HV Suite which was lovely. Incidently, I hope you like Hong Kong as much as I did, it was my first time there & I thought it was fabulous. I can't wait to go back!

Been three times myself, the last time was in December, absolutely love the place! I stayed on the Kowloon side on the last couple of occasions simply because one of my favourite views out there is looking across from Kowloon over Victoria Harbour to HK Island, especially that time of year when all the buildings are lit up at night celebrating Xmas. I won't recommend the hotel I stayed at (perfectly decent though it was) because our budget was set more towards entertaining ourselves, the hotel was merely somewhere to rest our heads. I'll post some ideas for places to eat, see and do (and maybe a pic or two) later when I have more time but one thing that I'll say now is that HK in June will be hot, humid and quite possibly showery, in November and early Dec it'll be around mid 20s during the day (I spent most of my time in shorts but jeans would be fine), high teens at night, relatively low humidity and though there may be the odd cloud in the sky there's pretty much a zero chance of rain. A friend of my brother went out there last year in June/July and said that he was changing his t-shirt twice a day, still loved the place though! The Excelsior on Causeway Bay
