BMW 5 series E39 headlamp problem
Discussion
Hi, I have a '97 E39 523i and the offside main beam headlamp (the full beam lamp next to the grille) stays on even with the key out of the ignition. I have had to disconnect the wiring plug from this lamp. All the other lamps work fine. I have been told it may be the light control module that is faulty.
Any ideas ??

Funny how it's just the one!
Many years ago I had to fix a Cavalier (remember them?) in which the headlamp dip beam stayed on all the time. The only way to get them off was disconnect the battery.
Turned out to be a faulty "dim dip" control box (they defaulted to lights on when damaged/faulty).
So I should think your control module (electronic relay) may well be faulty.
However, due to the extreme weather it could be an earth fault on the actual lamp unit. It is entirely possible that the earth connection may have overheated and caused a short.
Check for blown fuses too.
