Double-barrelled names, on the increase?

Seem to be noticing a lot more people choosing to have two surnames, I don't know if anyone keeps statistics on this, so thought I would ask here if anyone else had noticed this?
I do realise that it doesn't really matter, BTW.
I have noticed this too.I do realise that it doesn't really matter, BTW.
Yours,
Huntsman Fortesque-Smythe.
I remember my sister-in-law saying that when she gets married, she intends to join her surname with her husband's to form a double-barrelled name. Her boyfriend at the time had the surname Ring and her surname is Ings. When I pointed out to her that should she marry her current bloke (as he was at the time) she would become Ring-Ings and it didn't even register that this would sound completely stupid. Ings-Ring wouldn't have been much better.
As for whether or not it's on the increase in general, I can't say I've noticed.

Unfortunatly a sign of the times as women become more powerful and blokes give in. My OH mentioned it to me before we got married, it went a bit like this, " when we get married how would you feel about both our surnames being..............." NO, and dont mention it again. Gentlemen, put on the trousers and lead from the front.

Obviously Purdey in the New Avengers had the name of a double barrel.

I was involved in a software roll out for army recruiting software many years ago, it wasn't until we got a guards regiment that we discovered the muppets who'd written the database had used a hyphen to signify something else and it couldn't cope with double barreled names

What do they do exactly? How come they seem to be socialites?
