Beer tasting notes

Anybody here keep beer tasting notes?

Spent some time in Germany recently visiting a few brauhaus, love my English ales and drink them all the time and have been to Camra events a few times, avoid lager like the plague.

I feel like I'm perilously close to making the jump from regular taster to beer note-taker. Shame about the stigma associated with people that take tasting notes on beer. How does one overcome that, for the love of a good beer and to spare yourself the st ones you've already tried before!

Why not? It wouldn't bother me if people thought I was a bearded trainspotter just for writing tasting notes.

Not personally, though I can often be found blabbering on about the "sweet floral notes" of the guest ales in the pub.

As with many things in life if you want to go ahead and do it, ignore everyone else!

Not so much tasting notes, but i have a small notebook which i write down the names and brewery's of any beer's that i like, that way if im out and see some nice ales, i can check to see if i have had it before

Either it's nice or it isn't. I just make a mental note of the good and the bad and pay special attention to remembering those that are especially good. Which isn't always easy after 8-10 pints!!

I remember one guest ale I had last year, I got so pissed on it I couldn't remember what it was and had to take a trip back to the pub to find out what it was!

Yeah but remembering the English ones is easier than the German and Belgian ones

Op, theres nothing wrong with getting out the notebook and jotting down some details of the beers you've enjoyed.

Your problem is finding a suitably vile jumper and leather waistcoat to accompany the strange eyebrows and whispy beard you no doubt are now developing

Type it into your phone and no-one willknow what you're doing. Write it up when you get home, ta-da!!
