We are planning on going up to the Dales on Friday. Been reliably informed there is up to a foot of snow on the ground.

Just wondered if anyone knows what the roads are like around there, especially around Ingleton, as that's where we will be staying. I don't want to go if the roads aren't safe to drive on in a normal car. Checked the weather sites, and the webcam, but they dont say alot.

Thanks in advance

I'm in Ikley - edge of the dales - and we have about 8 inches on the side of the moor. Main roads (A65 from Leeds) is generally clear; it's the side roads which are terrible. Okay in 4WD. It's very pretty though, but wouldn't recommend any walking unless you are experienced in Alpine conditions....

PM me tomorrow if you like and I'll give the the latest and give a mate a call who lives up there.

I'm just north of Harrogate. All main roads OK.

The forecasts that I've seen are predicting lots more snow this week though and through into next. I would not be planning on any walking.

Planning on just going up to the village - got family we shall meet up there, but cant get in touch until the end of the week. Hoping to take our little one sledging, as all we have here is 1/2" of ice. Thanks for the contacts. Shall sort it today.

The local radio is http://www.freshradio.co.uk/ - they have updates on their site and might be worth listening to for a while to get a feeling for what's going on in the area.

There is more snow forecast for Fri/Sat in the north though so might get worse than it already is!
