The Elder Scrolls - Oblivion
Discussion
Got this the other day for my PS3 (game of the year edition). Never really read much about it or investigated it but I love Fallout 3. I have seen people say on here that if you like Fallout 3 you will love Oblivion. Is this true and is it a good game?
Anyway, I shall be breaking the plastic open and playing it soon, probably tonight.

The only thing to be careful of with the GOTY edition is that if you become a vampire there is a very good chance that you will not be able to cure yourself. There is a bug in the programming that prevents you from making the cure in the vast majority (possibly all) of cases, hence the reason I am stuck as a vampire for the rest of the game. It's not a complete disaster, just a bit annoying that such an obvious bug hasn't been fixed.

I couldn't really get into it.
I chose an ability that mean my mana (magika?) didn't regenerate, I also couldn't find where to buy/make mana pots.
Been meaning to either do some research about mana or try again with a new class.
If anyone can provide tips....

If you're still playing it, find a copy of the original, non GOTY version, put any equipment you have from any of the add ons in a safe chest somewhere and do the mission to rid the vapirism that way, should be back to normal. The only thing to be careful of with the GOTY edition is that if you become a vampire there is a very good chance that you will not be able to cure yourself. I ran into the vampire cure bloodgrass glitch, to which there is a (slightly bizarre) workaround as detailed here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200912....
Good job too as I wasn't planning on becoming a bloodsucker

I'll have to give this a try as I hadn't read about this workaround. The only approach I'd heard of was getting hold of a non-GOTY edition disk. Cheers!Good job too as I wasn't planning on becoming a bloodsucker

-Edit to add- Just tried the Yahoo answers solution and it works. Thanks Hanslow.

Spent about an hour on this last night, first impressions are good. It is quite like Fallout 3 isn't it (even in the way you start in the sewers and go out through the tunnels, like exiting the vault in Fallout).
The game obviously looks a little more dated than Fallout and the control system isn't so smooth (the x and y axis don't seem to move together smoothly) but I am already getting excited about the story line.
Initially it seems to be easier to wonder around than Fallout and I do miss the VATS system. It does seem like a massive game though and I'm sure I will be getting sucked into it. I'll keep my eye out for that vampire problem!
I am enjoying the combat on here. I especially like the way you can pick up a shield and block, then stab or whack people and things. I also like the bow and the way the arrows stick into the things you hit. Oh yes, i'm an Archer by the way I think. Still a bit confused about the potions and spells at the moment.
One quick question, how do I actually play the Game of the Year add-ons? Are they quests that will open up as the game progresses or do I have to go somewhere specific on the map.

You'll get various messages in your diary;Battlehorn Castle is a good one for early levels;
After installing the plug-in, a rumor appears about a battle at Battlehorn Castle.
Go to Battlehorn Castle and lift the siege that has been launched on it by killing the marauders.
Visit Nilphas Omellian to purchase upgrades for it including a dwemer forge.
The Wizards tower is also very useful, but probably not wise to attempt to reach until your on about level 10.
ETA: The Dark brotherhood quest story line is very good, well worth having a bash at, at any level.
More here - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Official_Plug-in... - aswell as the Shivering Isles which is a great way of levelling up and getting some great kit.
