At the minute, due to the snow, we've got a team of roofers who are stood down and a team of brickies who are stood down.

Luckily we have some projects that are internal refurbs only, but managing those is getting tricky with various trades not being able to make it to site as programmed.

How is it for you??

Luckily the majority of our work is internal shopfits - and with Christmas, most of our work only re-commences in Feb so having a quiet few weeks getting the paperwork boxed off.

The office is closed though, so if anything, saving a few quid on electricity and milk!

this week we had a large amount of sledges for sale, so we had a bumper day yesterday but we sold out.

Two of my office based staff are at home on a freebee and two are in London at meetings, I've told the builders refurbishing a building I own (paid on a day rate) they can forget any more work until the weather is better - bit harsh but I pay them well so whistle

I'm at home, Mrs M-J-B is at home unable to get to the office, so I suppose it is costing my money. The clients in the exhibition world that may have bought today will almost certainly buy tomorrow so I'm trying to convince myself we've not lost any money wink

It's the same for us. For our two current projects we need dry weather without frost. Could start an internal job (if we can get there)but would have to pull off to finish the others when the weather improves. Expecting some hard times ahead.

Saved me money personally on commuting costs, saved the office on milk and heating, using my mobile rather than landline will probably cost a bit more. Ah who cares.

Are these lost, or just delayed?

Interesting how your two workers are "at home on a freebie", whereas Mrs M-J-B "is at home unable to get to the office." hehe

It's not costing me money, as we're in the traditional January period of "hurry up and wait to find out who your customers are and what your job role looks like".

I think phoning them before 8am so they didn't even start their journey was a good move as I thought as a responsible employer I wouldn't want staff to take any unnecessary risks.

However, I then left home at 8am to drive the 2 mile, 7 minute journey to work but had no option but to give up at 9.10am because I couldn't get to the office due to all three routes into West Chilt being blocked - I then decided to come back home.

They were given a freebee - we were unable to get to the office and I worked from home today wink

I have to say Sir, Your shop was and still is the best shop in Berkhamsted!
It was a life saver in which seems a pretty boring town when your young. I remember the Spud Gun I got in there! and them little bangers .. and then them Burago build your own car kits, AND Hotwheels!! (I should have half the profits in your shop the amount of cars I've brought)

Snow is costing a bit tbh got away with postponing a few jobs today but tomorrow isn't looking good either, even if I could get the van out installing aerials and satellites in this isn't ideal rolleyes

We were due to have Sky HD fitted today......

I can fully understand and it gets to the stage where safety comes first.

The dish would have filled up with snow and knackered the signal strength anyway.

Normal Sky+ is working fine - interesting last night however that we lost signal so I thought I'd watch a recorded programme but it wouldn't let me as it said it required a satellite signal in order to view a recorded programme.

I thought recordings were totally local to the player?

I think it does that to verify that you have not modified your box and have the valid subscription. If you cancel the service, the Sky+ ability switches off.

The snow is costing us a great deal of money.

Most of our business customers are not in work, but then we will probably get a deluge of calls in when they return.

The carpet cleaning is dead, which is a good thing as its nigh on impossible to get the van anywhere anyway - which most customers probably know so they are not bothering to phone us.
