they are not all bad, especially the decent one who stopped me on NY day (Lancs constab) on the m-way for going a tad too fast in the Griff. i really didn't think I was going as fast as his machine clocked me at (I thought 90ish, apparently it was CONSIDERABLY more) - as i know my speedo reads a bit slow.
anyway - i thought discretion and giving warnings were things of the past but apparently not - and I thank him most sincerely. new year resolution...slow down a bit...

Its good to know that traffic plod still exist and are still allowed to have an opinion. You should have taken a photo of him, cos his kind will soon be extinct, having been replaced with mobile cameras on motorway overbridges and other 'accident blackspots' for no apparent reason other than to generate revenue for the Gov't.

I'm all for cameras where they are needed - outside schools for instance. However the last one I went past was on an overbridge on the M6, on a dry bright day with light traffic conditions and good visibility. WHY??

I bet being pulled by plod had more of an effect than zipping past a speed camera a bit too fast as well. Those flashing blue lights do concentrate the mind somewhat.

concentrate the mind....tighten the nether regions....etc yes! and yes he has restored my faith in what good cops are all about - he was reasonable, un-patronising and curteous. i should point out though that he wasn't 'normal' traffic plod, he was firearms who apparently have a dual role in that constab. however, if more cops behaved as he did with me then I am certain more respect would be created for the police - I am far more likely to heed his words than receiving an automated letter from a Gatso 'nick'. Incidentally I watched an old Clarkson prog on sky last night where he was in Holland talking to a guy from the Tuf Tuf Club? they who destroy Gatsos and photograph mobile speed camera van operatives to 'name & shame' blatantly 'commercial' camera sites/operators....bravo I say...why don't we Brits do that sort of thing? we really should put our foot down about these things...so to speak.....

I hope you kept yourself better composed than I would have. I would have cacked myself if I'd seen an armed copper get out of the car.

..and yes, I'm with you on the subject of action against obvious revenue generators. I once worked with a lad who had something to do with maintaining the cameras in Yorkshire somewhere. He said he was always busy as they lasted on average, two weeks, before being necklaced.

I've not really had any major problems with the traffic cops so long as you haven't done anything really really stupid, and you are courtious and talk to them like they are human the majority are ok, infact most are enthusiasts themselves..... you will always get the odd one though, it's a fact of life.

You would have to, to do that job. I would end up shooting some people for gross stupidity. A bit quick on the motorway is one thing, but some of the stunts you see going on in vehicles defies belief.

One I saw on the way to Blackpool before Christmas involved some stupid bh, in an average speed roadworks zone, in narrow lanes, open up her A4 desk diary, lean it on the steering wheel, then turn it the right way up and start looking through it. She couldnt see over the top of it to see what was going on in front of her, and It wasnt as if she had the road to herself either. I couldnt believe it...and these people are allowed to breed....Jeez

favourite cop story from a mate who is in the force....chap got nicked for stealing a well known brand of shampoo from a shop....when questioned why he did it, his reply? "because Im worth it"

Best Police story I have is from a school friend who went in pursuit of a stolen Pug GTi only to discover it was his car he was chasing !!! My mate is a big chap & normally very calm but I understand the criminal understood very quickly what he did wrong !!!

I have been pulled 18 times but only been booked 3 times. This includes being pulled for an arm on my window, loud exhaust, suspected illegal horn, Pulling away from light too quick, .... I could go on !!

I guess owning a van, XR3i & motorbike attracts attention unlike a TVR apparently !!!
