Forza 3 - Am I missing something?

Apologies in advance, really not trying to be an ars@ or anything, but got Forza 3 for xmas and just wanting to check whats going on. I'm finding the race style to be really slow and heavy compared to stuff like Grid, GT etc. Is it because I haven't progressed far enough to get anything decent, or do I have the wrong settings?
I've just been awarded an exige, so admittedly not got far, but its soo frustrating always winning in race mode and coming last online I'm tempted to give up!

Its a game that is hard to master id also say its 60% setup 40% ability, quickest way to get quick is turn all your tcs stm off manual gears put it on hard mode and start beating computer by 10 seconds a race, then go buy the highest rated storefront tune for your cars and have some fun.

Try hard with all driver aids switched off and no racing/braking lines if you want a challenge. It doesn't take long at all to be able to afford some nice machinery in career mode?

What he said. Turn it all off and it's more of a challenge. Plus you'll be faster online.

To do well online you have to have a tuned car (just buy the most downloaded for your particular car) and know the track off by heart so you are not wasting time in corners etc and know the best places to pass.
Racing in career mode is no preparation (even if you ramp up the difficulty) for online racing, real people are far better/worse than AI and way more unpredictable.
You just have to put the hours in. Just use career mode to build up your money so you can try different cars and tunes. Learning to design liveries can also help boost your balance.
Also, you cant really compare Forza to Grid etc they are different games with different aspects. Personally I think the idiots you find online in Grid are worse than the ones in Forza.

turn up the difficulty settings and it becomes a lot harder; also tweak the tire pressures as they are a bit hard by default and the cars seem to "skate" a little bit I've found dropping the to 27psi both ends helps to begin with and the tune them from there.

The cars at the start do feel quite sluggish; compared to the latter stuff; Online is a totally different world though; sometimes you can have a good race with a good group other times it seems to be a crash fest and nobody gives each other room to race properly.

Setup of the cars is crucial if you want to win though, I've found that finding a setup that lets me lap within 2 - 3 tenths of a second per lap each time is the best. consistency is the key and a car setup that lets you lean on the brakes and that is predictable round the bends is the best way to go about racing online.
