Hi guys

Sorry for this question, but I could not seem to find it when doing a search!

I am currently in a 997 C2S, which I do love, but I have an AM itch that needs scratching, so I am looking to buy a 4.3V8V coupe, probably one of the earlier ones,a 55/06 plate for around £45k.

What do you guys tend to do for servicing?
With Porsche, I tend to avoid the costly main agent and use one of the respected independents (who give the same standard of work, for much less) - is this possible with an AM, I am unaware of too many specialists?

If I have to go down the main agent (which would be convenient as there is one 3 miles from me!) what sort of bills would I be looking at for just a straight service? I would imagine tyres, discs, pads etc would be similar cost to my 911.

Many thanks for your help!

Oliver

Who do you use Neil? I am in Essex if that helps.

What sort of prices are you paying for your car?

In Essex, then actually official dealers, Grange in Brentwood are not horrific ...certainly they are at the lower end labour rate wise of AM dealers ...I used them for the first couple of years as I lived in Brentwood then.

You are still looking at probably £800 minimum on a regular service though ....its 5.5 hours labour, just under £100 an hour + nearly 2 gallon of oil etc ...central London dealers up to £150+vat per hour ..you do the maths frown

Now im up North, and my car goes to www.derbymotorservices.co.uk (rick on here) as do many others ...top service, reasonable price, from a genuine enthusiast and top bloke, I wouldnt go anywhere else now ...1/2 the price of a main dealer smile

Not had to have mine serviced or any work on it yet - had it less than a year. Rick-Derby- is basically God when it comes to knowledge of Astons and servicing. If you look at some of the previous threads where people have issues, Rick always knows the answer. Not used him, as not had the need, but visited him on a charity day. You will find loads of people on here giving him the thumbs up.
He is based in Derby, bit of a trek from the South but book yourself a hotel for the night whilst you get your car services, still cheaper than a main agent.

Had mine done recently at Grange Welyn Aston Martin and it was £720 for the 3 year service.

No extra's needed doing, they fixed a few niggles for me (petrol cap getting stuck etc).

Also Extended the Warranty £1000/year for the Aston one.

I had a 3 year/30,000 mile service at Rick's just before Christmas. The service was £450 approx including VAT. I also needed disk pads front and rear, which cost a further £600, therefore the total was around £1,050. Probably would have cost around £2,000 in total at a main agent. The car runs better than ever. Ususlly after a service at main agents I am disappointed, but after Rick looked after it I am very happy.

And you didn't drop by to see us just round the corner from Grange? :-( (fellow WHC'ers)

In one month I will be servicing my 05 Vantage (Year 4 Service) and the cost on a main dealer will be 1000 inc VAT. Very expensive but main dealer stamp worth it

what is the main dealer stamp "worth" though?

say you own it 5 years, have 5 services and pay £500 more each time - does that make a car without dealer stamps worth £2500 less?

I guess you have a point. But aparently the market will pay for 2.5 difference (or it would be very hard to sell without it). Will tell you soon as I will be selling my car soon to live overseas !

I made the same switch a couple of years ago. Broadly the 997 C2S and V8V cost about the same for work, services, parts. I guess AM and Porsche benchmark to competition.

You'll also get let out in traffic in an Aston. Remember to remove fuse 22 after purchase!

Good luck with the hunt for the right one!
