exhaust manifolds to go red hot? Doing the gaskets over the last few days I noticed the manifolds started going red hot after a few minutes. This is at night with low light. Checked tonight too after a run & they have a dim 'glow' going on. Is this normal? Can't say I noticed it with the other cars (not that I remember looking for it). scratchchin

Runing too lean, timing....?

P.S. The car runs like a dream. Feels & goes very well indeed. scratchchin

So does this mean you have cured your sealing issues??

If so how??..

Are the manifolds the originals? Probably..
If they are like mine, they are likely to be a lot thinner walled than they used to be..
Its too late to think straight (and I've just come from the hotel bar....)but exhaust gas temps are pretty highidea and rust always seems to glow quicker than good metal?..?

Hi Mike, I got two sets of large bore gaskets from V8 Developments & they seem to have done the trick. Done one side, will do the other at the weekend, along with my SH droplinks which don't want to play at the mo. smash

Oh & my nice shiny, alloy, low entry trolley jack has packed in so I can't lift it. banghead

They should not glow - check the timing, check the advance retard works when it revs.. and check the mixture.

First thing I would do is to use a lazer temp gun to check the temps .. and compare it to the same model..

Too lean from a vacuum leak.
Too rich (excess being burnt after exhaust valves open.

One side only? cracked/damaged exhaust valve.
