Freelander V6. Opinion.

My parents ran a V6 for about 3 years with no problems whatsoever. It was their daily driver, which I unfortunately wrote off. So I can say, from experience, it's bloody good in accident!
After a year's break, we bought a top spec V6. It was the last of the first generation (pre major faclift).
Again, no problems with car.
OPbviously the V6 is pretty thirsty and depreciation was awful (although that won't be of much concern now).
When driving this second V6, I found the auto gearbox's tiptronic very lazy, taking a very long time to change up and down. If left in Drive, it was fine, though. I have to admit the V6 noise is extremely pleasing!
As for build quality, it's no Range Rover. Plastics are of extremely good quality, but it's functional and tough. I found the interior very well laid out and the seats were comfortable.
One thing I did note, was a problem with the sun visors. If they were flipped right the way forward, it would obscure my frontal vision. The driver's seat is not height adjustable, but even so I wouldn't say my 6'2 height is particularly tall - so this sun visor problem was surprise.
Remember these cars are bias front wheel drive, so don't expect Defender-rivalling off-road ability - I got the car stuck in quite an easy off roading area!

Doing a little bit of further research reveals that economy may be as low as 23-24 for mixed driving, possibly a little bit too low for my GF!
Also as my GF is the same height as you lack of height adjustability may be a problem for her, a poke around is required I think.
