110 V8: (Basic) Engine Assistance Requested
Discussion
I have a 110 V8 with LPG running on twin SUs which I've had for a while and not really done very much with. The last time I ran it out it had, frankly, awful performance - slow, backfiring, clouds of black smoke. All in all running very rich indeed.
I've stripped and rebuilt the carbs, checked and fettled other things, but I'm stumped on one thing: where does the vacuum advance pipe go?
The LPG system (at least the front end system) is from OMVL, and is quite a few years old.
There is a "pancake-shaped" black plastic device to which the hose from the distributor's vacuum advance unit is connected. This device is about the same diameter as a beer mat, say. There are 2 pipe connections on the underside of this device; I would assume that a pipe should run from the second connection to somewhere on the carbs or inlet manifold, but I can't identify any "spare" location for such a pipe to run.
So, first, what is this "pancake"? And, second, where should I run a vacuum pipe to in order to get the vacuum advance working?
Many thanks!

The pancake thing is probably a filter/damper of some kind. According to the 110 parts book I have, there should be a banjo bolt and hose union somewhere(the picture is splendidly vague!) on the rear half of the inlet manifold; connect this to the other port in the pancake thing with a suitable bit of hose, and hopefully it will solve your problems. Is the ignition timing alright otherwise?

Many thanks for that. Once I've found my thermal gloves I'll go outside and have a look! Vagueness is what I found in most sources so far, too!Edited by hidetheelephants on Saturday 9th January 23:01
