Evening all. Anyone want to advise on an ebay/paypal claim?
Discussion
Hello.
Here's the situation I would appreciate advice on. 3 weeks ago I bought a home cinema receiver on ebay to upgrade the one I had. It cost £300 which is less than RRP, but that's because it was a factory graded item. This was initially a worry, but as it came with a 12 month warranty I bought it anyway. It arrived, I plugged it in, there was lots of happiness and highfiving between my friend and myself as we played games etc in surround sound. Anyway, yesterday it died. There was then lots of swearing from me as the cinema room experience ground to a halt right before watching a film.
The seller has an ebay shop with 125000 feedback. They offered a warranty as I said, which made me feel secure and happy when I bought it. I've been in touch with the seller telling them there's a fault and saying I want to return the item for a refund. They've obviously ignored me. I've now put in a paypal claim also saying there is a fault and I want to return the item for a refund. Once again that has been ignored by the seller.
What happens next? All I want is to start having a cinema room again as quickly as possible.
Cheers.

Paypal are pretty good usually for the buyer. Follow the claim in paypal's resolution centre. If the seller does not acknowledge the claim within the time limit paypal will find in your favour and charge back the money to your account. If as you say the guy has an established shop he's got a large paypal account and needs paypal to keep trading.
I know it isn't really all that long. Well, it happened at about 2pm yesterday, I mailed them straight away and I've still not had a reply now, so that's 2 evenings that they've not answered my mail. In that time, they have listed 117 items, so they're definitely using their account and will have received my messages.
I am impatient I suppose. But surely answering your messages is part of the job when you make a living from ebay.

Ok, do I have to escalate it up to a dispute then just sit back and wait? It's currently at claim level.
Give them a couple of days.. just in case. then escalate for sure...............you will be fine. Paypal will chase them for the refund and if they dont they could get their account barred.
Thanks for the replies. I just wanted a bit of advice as it's a fair bit of cash, to me anyway and I have never claimed through paypal before. I'll give them some more time to respond before escalating.
If someone replies back saying that they've received my mail, then it puts my mind at rest. Otherwise I just imagine a gang of childcatcher style baddies, sitting in a big warehouse of dodgy gear round a bonfire, reading my messages but instead of answering them, cackling and boozing away as they slap each other on the back and get drunk on cheap whisky. Bought with my 300 quid.

At last! After a few more days and elevating it to a dispute with paypal I've had a response from the seller, stating they want to collect the item by parcelforce and will then refund. The only thing I'm wondering, is if they collect it how does the proof of postage thing work?
Do I just get the tracking number from parcelforce and that's all I need? I'm just wondering, just in case it gets picked up and I never hear anything ever again and have to carry on paypal disputing etc.
Cheers in advance for any advice!

The PF courier should give you a copy of the collection note with the tracking number on it - if not, make sure you ask him for the details, then put the tracking number into the paypal claim.Do I just get the tracking number from parcelforce and that's all I need?
