My central heating boiler literally blew up last night and I'm currently on the phone to my household insurers to make a claim. This call started at 6.50pm and I am still in the phone queue. I've yet to speak to a human voice.

If I hang up, I get to eat dinner and do the other things I planned to do this evening; however this will also result in my average house temperature remaining close to zero and I'll just have to do this phonecall again later tonight.

However if I hang on there is a possibility that maybe, just maybe I actually get some fking help from the people I've paid £25 a month to for the past 7 years to cover me for this kind of st, and this will lead to a brand new boiler that will actually heat my house.

So Pistonheads; do I hang up, or stay on the line?

Oh and does anyone know an alternative number for Nationwide's claims department?

Does your 'phone have a speakerphone function? I normally just put the speaker on and get on with whatever I was doing, and keep my ears open for anyone answering.

This link gives all their telephone numbers. Might be worth having a look to see if there are any alternative numbers. Good luck!

If you dont have a touchtone phone you cant go through the options, so need to be put straight through to a person - so if you dont press any buttons, it may put you straight through?

Are you being diverted to India?

On similar vein I have a small Internet provider called Zen who work out of Rochdale, for the first time ever I rang them up in the last two days as my connection failed and I got 2 experienced guys with northern accents helping me out without much wait even though the current conditions mean half of the UK is off. And they know their stuff*.

Check out their wait time, pretty good for most of the day.

So, Is nationwide support actually not nationwide but global support who does not care?

There is a function on our 'phone system (not activated, of course), for where to divert on no answer, etc.

One option is 'put on hold forever'.

Or another is 'play ring tones until the caller hangs up'.

This may have happened to you....

Ours is set to 'divert to voicemail', but many won't be so nice!

Laptop battery went dead; I did what any other PH'er would do and hung up at the 2 and a half hour mark and went out for a drive biggrin fk it; I'll try them tomorrow after my toes and hands have thawed.

Thanks for the alternative numbers by the way; I tried one or two but they were all '9-to-5' lines.

That's horrendous. Can you call a plumber/fitter and then claim it after it has been fixed?

I've got a renewal quote from the AA which is more than triple what Green Flag want for the cover I need. They did this last year, and price matched when I told them I was leaving. I've been trying to get through for days to give them the opportunity to come up with a better offer, but their phone service says busy, try again later. I think I will just take the green flag quote, cancel the dd mandate to the AA and tell them to stuff it up their arse when I eventually get through.

The wierdest one I have experienced is one number where ringing from a mobile got you into a queue, ring from landline and you got through to the the office is closed recording. The bds kept ringing my mobile while it was off not leaving any messages.
