Hi all, ive currently got a mk1 pre-facelift focus 2.0, I would love to have a st170 but really cant see the point in paying so much more for an extra 40 bhp (which after test drive really isnt noticable due to stupidly tall gearing on the 170), plus the ST costs so much more to insure, so I though it might be an idea to just find and fit the bumpers and lights of the ST car on to mine (its already got the ST wheels fitted), Would they fit? And has anyone else done this conversion?
Thanx in advance

Yes it has been done, and yes parts will fit. You'll need new jumper cables for the fog lights if you want to fit ST fogs. (st170 fogs are £120 a side all in from ford)

And its more than just 40bhp in reality. but I wont go off thread with that

Thanx james, ive been quoted 150 quid for a front bumper including foggys from a breakers so quite a good price it seems! Ive done a bit of reaserch and it seems your right about there being more that just a power hike, apparently the St sits on a revised chassis with better suspension, although i think the standard focus is a pretty good peformer round the twisties

As mentioned, the ST170 is not just about extra horsepower and cosmetic changes. Cosworth tuned the engine as you know, plus there's the Cosworth stainless steel exhaust and manifold, bigger brake discs and suspension upgrades.

But cosmetically you can pretty much totally match the look of it.

The ST170 really isn't all about the gear box and the power. The whole chassis was revised with new geometry and the car feels much, much more well sorted than a zetec with lowering springs would. Personally I wouldn't spend money adding ST170 look bits to a zetec as I am sure that the total cost will end up being about the same as buying an ST anyway.

It is funny really. I get the same comments about the ST170 as I did with the Racing Puma.

Everyone is quick to criticise the lack of power and can't look past the horsepower. Fact remains, the set-up is very well sorted and never fails to raise a smile on the b-roads. With the full spec, it is quite a package.

Anyway - I digress!

why spend all that money on making a look alike when you might aswell go and buy one. theres alot more spec then just the bhp.thats why they are more to insure

ST170 is more than just a Focus 2.0 with different wheels and 40 bhp more, as mentioned. Brakes, suspension, interior, gearbox...all different. They're great all rounders. I'd buy the ST170, but I can't justify the high prices of them at the moment though.
