Fish Tank Lid - Help!
Discussion
Not sure which Forum this should go in so I'll try here and no doubt the mods will do the necessary.
I got a Juwel 160 tank a couple of years ago. Its a nice size and the fish and plants etc are doing fine. The heater has died and been replaced, the lid however has let me down several times and although the aquarium shop it came from have been very good and replaced it twice already I think Im well and truly out of the warranty period now and the light fittings keep failing.
The reflective strips behind the bulbs keep dropping out of the lid and into the water, and the lights then provide a disco for the fish as opposed to a nice natural light
So - is there a replacement available from anywhere online, and if so, is there an upgrade available rather than the rather cheap feeling original lid we currently have.
Any help / links / advice greatfully received!

Does the strip need to come out to change the bulb?
If not stick it in with superglue (remove the lid and allow to cure though)
The strips dont need to come out to exchange bulbs, so I could do this, the problem is that the bulb holders seem to be allowing the condensation into the fitting and then we have our home disco effect again. If not stick it in with superglue (remove the lid and allow to cure though)
I guess Im probably going to be able to just buy the fittings in the lid - but really hoped for an upgrade to stop having to do this every few months.
The guy in the shop did admit that they'd had a few issues with the Juwel tanks, but obviously its a little difficult to exchange a whole set-up, especially with 60 or 70 fish happily settled in

T5 or T8 lighting? Not that it matters tbh, do they have end caps to stop condensation getting onto the light fitting, or is condensation getting into the light unit itself, in which case many people just use marine sealant to seal up the light unit gaps? I assume its a Tropical setup?
Jewel Tank are abit of a pain in the arse as a little bit specific to type. We've had a Jewel rekord 120 (single light) and and our current marine tank is a Rio 180 sump'd (just sold the lid actually as we use a luminaire 4xT5 lighting overhang hood)
But yes the aluminium reflective things can just be stuck on, either superglue of sealant.
Edit: you can buy new jewel lighting units, seen a few in my local fish shops, most new ish ones are twin light units.

I have a Rio 180 & 1 year in have gone through 2 lighting units already. There is a 2 year warranty on these tanks so you may still be in date. But dos the 2 years continue on replacement parts though ??
As I have had my second one last week am I covered for one more year or two ??
They are a really poor design though so I boought a Fluval for our second tank, no problems yet but early days............
