Just dropped my trusty old Nikon D50 and 18-55 kit lens on a nice hard tile floor. Camera seems ok, but the plastic lens mounts have all snapped off the 18-55 lens.

Not sure whether to just replace it with another off ebay for £50, or bite the bullet and replace it with something a bit tastier. My other lenses are a 50mm f1.8, 80-200 f2.8 and el cheapo 70-300. Just need a decent everyday walkabout.

Any ideas?

I dropped my D70 a couple of years back, smashed the kit lens and jammed the shutter. I got a quote for £220 to repair it, so claimed off the house insurance, who paid out the value of a D80 as the D70 was no longer available. I put the remains on eBay and surprisingly got £170 for it!

Do you have insurance to claim from? smile

Assuming the camera is OK I'd go for a 18-70 Nikon as a walkabout, a great all round lens.

Gonna take the camera out now and see if it's ok.

Not good, getting an intermittent ERR message, and the camera doing mirror lock up. Tried cleaning the lens connectors, replaced the battery, change lens, all with no luck.

Might have to traipse through the snow to my nearest Nikon dealer and see what they say.
