Sick of being snowed in, my Renault van is up for sale and I have just bought a Defender!!!!! Will be mainly used for work but I'm sure I'll be doing a fair amount of off roading too. The winch will come in handy for pulling boilers and other heavy gear in.

Hope you chaps don't mind if I pop in occassionally to ask a few questions as its the first time I have had one.

Are you pulling my plonker, can you really take the roof off? Guess I have a lot to learn!

You can take anything off a Land Rover. I've never done it on a 110 but I'm pretty sure it's just a few bolts.

Is that David Oldham 4x4?

Shouldn't be too hard to remove the roof. Not sure about the decals but other than that, looks a tidy enough Defender.

Its a lot of bolts and you will have to cut the silicone seal on top of the screen also you will need a military hoop/roll cage which just bolts in to mount the seatbelts.Nice car!

Yes, it is David Oldhams. I only live around the corner from there. Agree about the decals but it is a tidy motor and will be ideal for work and play.

There is a lot more to taking the roof off than you might imagine. Mine is stored in the garage loft so I know.

Seatbelts as someone else has already pointed out will need a canvas roof hoop set and header rail so the bracket above your shoulder has something to bolt to.

Anything in the roof will be lost - your spotlight, interior light and speakers etc, although you can refit the sunvisors and rear view mirror.

You have to do something about the back door, and the spare wheel, and because of the lack of weight over the rear wheels it gets very tail happy under braking.

You also loose all your security.

And thats without even considering offroad safety.

Nice 110 though. Hope you enjoy it driving
