If I am looking at a nice, quick, nimble, fun and eventful drive for under 10k, is there ANYTHING that could run with a Boxster S?

If really good I would stretch to 13k but would have to beat the Boxster in all aspects!

I am looking for THE BEST SPORTS CAR 10k will buy:

=> On all sorts of roads from reasonably comfy long range cruising on motorway to French coastal roads to bumpy welsh B roads...

=> Has to have reasonably exciting acceleration, so good fun when you step on the pedal...

=> Has to have a very well sorted chassis and suspension for quick response and nimble steering...

=> Has to sounds well from the engine (exhaust can be upgraded)...

=> Should be reasonably comfy as a daily drive (no Elises, Caterhams etc, cant get them for that sort of money anyway)

=> Doesn't have to be a 4 seater, 2 seater is fine

Suggestions are appreciated...

TVR Chimaera? comfy, quick, good handling and a sound track to die for.. 10k will get you a fairly late one..

servicing should be reasonable as well

Don't handle as well as a Boxster.

No, but for 10k I would be looking at the Chimera anyway for the noise. If you like high revs the S2000 would probably be easier to look after than the Boxster.

S2000 maybe?

987 Boxster's are nice, not a fan of the 986 though, they look a bit dated outside and inside IMO.

Tarted up hatchback.

I'm not bad mouthing it - its a great car, but a tarted up hatchback none-the less.

If you have the option, then a 'proper' sports car is always going to be the most fun for any given budget. That means RWD and usually rag-top and 2 seats.

True but just thought I'd crowbar it in anyway.

I agree, the 987 just feels a bit nicer and more special.

Out of interest - how the feck do you get to the engine on a Boxster? is it completely inacessible from the top? How far ahead of the rear axle are they? Are they almost 'on top' of it or is it further forward under the hood deck?

How big is the boot in the back, is it over the top of the engine? Gearbox behind the engine between the wheels?

When you think about it, its actually a very cleverly packaged car, thanks to the flat engine.

Boxters are great if youv'e got tits, cant park and know nothing about cars.
What i am trying to say is er.....Its a chicks car. just look at it.
early Boxters are ugly anyway IMO. Its the badge that sold the car. I think a 3.2 performance car should be up there with the likes of BMWs M3 3.2 at 342bhp, and its no where near.
Sorry if Ive offended anyone laugh

Decent car yes... but it's a bit too lardy though to provide what the OP is looking for.

Boxster or Z3m gets my vote.

Maybe not, but it's an alternative. No real point suggesting a Boxster was there? wink

You can get at bits from underneath, oil filter, plugs, coils, probably others but I only know from watching when they serviced it.

For the top access, you put the hood into "service" position and tie the back to the front using a couple of service straps, and then the "parcel shelf" unclips and you remove it and you can get to the top of the engine.

There's also a removable panel in the cabin so that you can get to the front of the engine for things like pulley belts.

At some point I guess you need ramps and the means to drop the engine out.

This "it's a girl's car" thing is getting tedious. The Boxster S is a brilliant car.
