Cockpit Heater Confusion???
Discussion
'86 280i... with absolutely no cockpit heat.
1) Fan works quite well - blows lots of cold air around.
2) The direction wheel works - I can move the distribution of cold air around.
I unhooked the hoses, blew out the antifreeze and ran clean hose water through the matrix one way and then the other. No sign of crud or a blockage.
I rotated the temperature wheel to full opposite lock (assuming heater valve was open) and got clean water again, no blockage.
The hoses heat up with the rest of the coolant and are hot where they enter/exit the matrix.
Q1 - Do I not have a heater valve? It's not in the engine bay.
Q2 - If the matrix gets hot coolant and the fan is blowing cold air - where does the heat go?
Ideas? Thanks Grady

Your heating is working exactly as TVR designed it to!
Heat soak through the transmission tunnel is quite effective though takes a while to kick in.
Cold air blasting through the poorly sealed door card (especially the interior door handle) offsets any heat from the heater.
Most likely improvement to be had is by making sure that all the air moved by the fan goes through the heater matrix.
I gave up and fitted a heated seat cover... toasty buns
