Xdrive in the UK?

After all this snowy weather, its makin me wish i had the choice of a four wheel drive beemer other than the X5/X6...similar to the 3/5 series XDrives available abroad. I remember reading the reason the USA get them is cos their people are so worried about safety that its mostly a marketing tool..but they'd be pretty handy in this icy weather. Audi's Quattros just dont do it for me, was wondering if BMW have ever seriously considered selling the 4wd models in the UK? Or whether they have any plans to in the future?
