Last Minute Holiday Deals In August

We usually try to book our family holidays well in advance, taking advantage of the early booking discounts that are available, but for various reasons have missed the boat for August this time around.
Therefore I have a bit of a dilemma. Am I best to book something fairly soon and bite the bullet on price as I am too late to be early and too early to be late, or should I be brave and wait until a few days before we are due to go? If I do wait, am I likely to be able to find something decent, or am I going to really struggle because of the time of year?
We could go for 7, 10 or 14 days.
We don't mind too much where we go, as long as the standard of hotel is high, the weather is nice and the food is not too complicated so the kids can eat with minimal fuss. We enjoy cruises and have liked the Caribbean, Florida, Canary Isles etc. The girls will be aged 11 and 14.
So, can I get a bargain by waiting if I'm not too fussy about the actual destination, or will I end up ruining the family holiday?!!

I don't know if they still do, but Thomson used to have an auction site for last minute deals - some of my family went on a week all-inc cruise for about £200 each IIRC.

We looked with a few days to go last year but the savings weren't that good & you could end up with a panic buy without doing all the normal homework (trip advisor etc) We gave it a miss in the end.

Have a look on otbeach.com as they may still do early discounts for Aug.
