Le Mans advice

Hi All,

Myself and a few friends are planning a trip to Le Mans this year (we will be driving there) and it will be our first visit to the historic race venue. I am therefore after some useful advice and tips and therefore have the following to sort out:

Tickets for the event - Where is the best place to get them?

Ferry Tickets - I have seen the thread on Norfolkline Ferries and think this is the best (cheapest!) option here

Camping - How do I book this? Where are the best places to be?

I have heard some say that going to a company who arranges all the accommodation/venue tickets/ferry tickets etc. on your behalf is best for first timers. Is this true, and does anybody have any links for such companies or recommendations?

I also note that a fair few people on here already had it all sorted and booked before xmas so have I left it all too late!!??

Hi.

Tickets for the event are already selling. You have a few choices (off the top of my head);

• ACO (official ticket seller),
• 1st-tickets.co.uk,
• Team Langoustine,
• Just Tickets,
• Speedchills.

Crossing wise (based on 2 people in a car), you have a few options again (not all listed, only ones I looked at);


Portsmouth to Caen route:

Based on 2 in a car crossing. - £175.5pp

Brittany Ferries (Portsmouth)

From Caen, France to Le Mans, France

Distance: 102.8 miles (show in km) | Time: 2 hr 00 min



Dover to Calais route:

Based on 2 in a car. - £50pp

Eurotunnel (Dover)

From Calais, France to Le Mans, France

Distance: 263.4 miles (show in km) | Time: 4 hr 03 min



Dover to Boulogne route:

Based on 2 in a car. - £50pp

LD Lines (Dover)

From Boulogne, France to Le Mans, France

Distance: 243.8 miles (show in km) | Time: 3 hr 48 min



Newhaven to Dieppe route:

Based on 2 in a car. - £44pp

LD Lines (Newhaven)

From Château de Dieppe, France to Le Mans, France

Distance: 168.3 miles (show in km) | Time: 2 hr 46 min



Camping:



I can recommend Karting Nord, but it all depends on how loud/ close you want to be.

Ive just booked tickets for the Classic through PHer 'Longers' http://www.fasttracktours.co.uk/24hr.php

As I didnt want all the add ons others provide (onsite kitchen/own bar etc) I found the prices very reasonable. Booked the ferry direct (LD Lines P'mouth - Le havre on the fast cat)

Longers was a pleasure to deal with

Staying in Karting Nord. How do you gain access to this site? (only been to LM once before and stayed in MB) Is it through the tunnel at the main entrance? Are there other tunnels (pedestrian or vehicular) to get you in and out of the circuit?

Several ways of getting here. During the race you either go via Tetre Rouge and follow the road passed Houx Annexe to roundabout by Technopark. Entrance is on the right. The alternative is from Porsche Curves, go under the circuit passed Beausejour to new roundabout and turn left. Head passed kart track entrance to roundabout and turn left.

Just Google Earth for other access which can link from one of the roundabouts on Mulsanne to the HA roundabout, or to roundabout by BSJ.

I'd pay a few quid more and go though an agency, I gave up on the ACO when I placed an order for camping tickets at 7.00 am on the 1st day they were accepting orders (the Saturday of the test weekend of the previous years race) only to get an e-mail a few months later telling me my preferred site was full and offering Beausejour.
