I'm getting hitched in the summer and we're getting to the point of purchasing the wedding rings.

Hers is relatively easy as she wants the one that matches her engagement ring, from the same place.

Mine is easier as I just want a plain band, made from platinum. It doesn't matter where from.

Now, I know cock-all about jewellery, so I have no idea where to get good value from.

I've heard about jewellery 'quarters' in Hatton Garden and Birmingham. Has anyone used these places? Are they any good? Is there a particular shop to go to or should one just go them all? Do these places like a haggle?

I don't want to buy online as I want to try something on to make sure what I have in my head works and feels good.

TIA

Jewellry quarter birmingham is by far and away the best place for this.

We had ours done there last year for around half the price the high street wanted. And its all locally producted / crafted.

We had ours done here:

http://www.stonejewellers.co.uk/

We went in for an initial consultation, got sized / fitted. Then went back 6 weeks later to pick them up. They even offered a free engraving service, couldnt be happier with ours.

To give you an idea. I had a thick / heavy Titanium ring made and my missus a small platinum band. Combined price would have been £420, they did us both for £300 + engraving.

i just got mine from the wedding ring workshop in hatton garden, the service is good they make the rings on site and it is cheap, my heavy weight paladium ring was £200 opposed to less heavy weight similar rings in the high street for £300, they do loads of designs with what ever metal you want.

Bought the OH's engagement ring in Brum whilst we were there, we were very happy with the ring and the price. We'd have gone there for the wedding bands too but it's a bit of a hike from Gateshead.

I searched high and low for our platinum bands and found www.jewelleryforall.com by far the cheapest. Just go to a shop and try on different sizes and weights. Great customer service and fantastic quality rings.

To be honest, IF you are wanting a simple Platinum band, why don't you just go to your locally Indy ?

they will carry all sizes of Widths and sizes, and you get support a local business.

They will adjust it for you FOC in the coming months when you discover that it is too big for your finger that has changed size since wearing a ring wink

because you will buy your eternity rip off ring from them in the future.....

Oh and think of the carbon footprint, think of the children ect ect
That's what we did, she got her platinum ring to match the engagement ring (and importantly to her, fitted snugly up against it, as the wedding band was shaped with the same profile) and I got a boggo chunky paladium band to match for about £300 (less some discount, but I forget how much, the price quoted was £300).

One consideration though, if you want anything more than bog standard, make sure you go to a jeweler that makes stuff on the premises, many don't.
