See my profile for what it once looked like. It is a 1982 Daimler Double Six HE. No MOT/TAX

It now needs everything doing to it to make it lovely again. It will need paint, and probably will need the seats and upholstery replaced even though i did the headlining before leaving it standing hehe The gearbox leaks, terminally. I am told it is the rear seal that never saw any use since i had it replaced and has dried up? It has been mainly standing (outside) for five years frown

She did have lots and lots of work done 6-7 yrs ago with fresh metal fabrication around the front and rear windows and i guess a 50% bare metal respray and 50% nearly bare metal hehe All the suspension , entire front and and rear end was removed and sorted, gas shocks installed for more sporty handling and the windows tinted at Paragon.New steering rack also went in at that time.

Essentially it is now a project, although you could put some transmission fluid in it /jump start it and drive it away.

I have a nasty feeling it is worthless without an MOT, and probably then not worth much more without me doing all this work (again) myself and i just can't be bothered and my tastes have moved on so i won't do it for myself.

Opinions? Don't try and spare my feelings hehe

smileIt's worth it's weight (scrap value). There are too many about these days and it looks like it needs a lot of work to bring up to scratch.

Shame.. My first Jaguar was a BRG Series 111 many years ago. cloud9

I'd say it's practicaly worthless TBH. I'd be surprised if you could even give it away for any more than it's scrap value. If you break it for spares instead of scrapping it what'll you do with the rest if the good bits go?

You can buy a really mint XJ12 for maybe £4000 to £6000 and a good runner that maybe needs a little light work for no more than £2000. They pop up quite often on carsandclassics.

If it's been standing for as long as you say chances are all the body repairs are well on their way back to the brown crumbly stage, the engine's likley to be corroded internaly and the interior looks like it needs major work. I'll bet the electrics have developed some interesting charectictics too..

Somebody might take it on I suppose, but if I was looking for one I'd spend the cash on a really pristine example at top money rather than a unknown quantity like yours.

(voice of experience mode on)

Who knows what you are getting into with restoring an old Series 111? No matter what you recon in time, agravation and money then double it and add some.. scratchchin no..actually make that add lots.

(voice of experience mode off)

yes... After I posted I found myself wondering just how far away the OP lived. Perhaps I'd just casually PM him.. maybe go and have a look, just a look mind you.. might not be too bad after all.. could take a can of petrol, jump leads and some tools... and see if we could get it started - just as a favour of course.

Blimey that was easy after standing all that time.. it drives too.. Go on then, let's just whizz it round the block bounce.. Oooo, that's nice, really nice.. I'd forgotten how good these V12s are..

yikes Faaark me, It goes too..

Nah.. bit of paint here and there, my mate Pete could easily do that.. I've always wanted another Series 3.. especially an XJ12.. How much?.. Seriously is that all you want for it?..and the garage full of spares too?..

Err.. Hello? Hi Georgeous, yup I'm on my way back, put the kettle on... yeah, we got it started, fired up first go.. and can you nip outside and get your car off the drive so's I can drive it straight into the garage please darling?.. Can't leave it on the drive 'cos the handbrake's fked..

Steve, I know for a fact it will start and drive, there is a power problem though as it feels like it is only running on one bank of cylinders or something. You don't notice when you rev it while stationary but it is down on oomph..

I recently bought another v12 jag to use for spares to sort this one out, but the new one is nearly a minter and has LPG so it makes no sense to do it!

I might just be prpeared to donate the green one to a good home if you really want to take it on smile

Sorry Hedders, I was only joking. Secretly I'd love another Series 3 but I'm skint at the 'mo and if I bought home an.. ahem.. project and started throwing cash at it MrsevilJS'd be - how can I put this on a public forum? - somewhat unimpressed..

If it's down on oomph then look at the vacuum advance in the dizzy. I drove one around for a year with it bust, fixing it made a hell of a difference. Very cheap fix.
