Picked up an 07 Defender TDCI 110 hard top last night. It looks as if its been worked fairly hard over its 47000 mile, 21/2 year existance, both on and off road, but I think I got it for the right price. Especially as it has the remainder of the manufacturers warranty and a good service history. Engine and gear box seem sweet enough but I can detect a slight crunch, no, not even a crunch, but very slight "grind" going from 1st to 2nd. This is not apparent going into any other gear, not even from 3rd to 2nd. Is this something to worry about?

Also clutch sounds a bit "clanky" when engaging it quickly but not when when it is gently engaged. Any comments?

Last thing, the vehicle didn't come with a user manual. Is there anywhere I can download or pick on up from one from?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Weak syncromesh between 1st and 2nd is a known problem on Defenders. It can feel quite notchy on a brand new one.

Dave,

Speak to the dealer, and at least make them aware. Over here we have all sorts of them with issues. Clutch and gearbox changes seem a lot more frequent than you would hope for. (Along with a few other dramas)

Cheers
