Relocating my Barbers shop, but the new premises i'm looking at is far too big.
I would have 600sq feet to play with.
Any good ideas welcome !

Why not have an Internet Cafe?

Tea / Coffee / Surfing / Haircut (during)

You'll get national press coverage, then can franchise - 12% (ongoing) please.

Flog shiny gadgets and accessories, maybe phones, pda's, small laptops, console games. Maybe a few classy ladies gifts depending on your type of client, as who could resist a few easy brownie points with the missus and there will always be anniversaries/birthdays? I would advise that you somehow arrange your client chairs to have visibility of as much of it as possible, as you have a captive customer you can pretty much force to stare at your wares while they keep their head still!! You can also have your waiting clients sat amongst the stuff

What about a free pool table? I think it would be great to play a bit of pool whilst waiting to be seen. Good way to get chatting and create a really friendly atmosphere.

This is something i've always wanted(to pass my own time, rather than clients:-), sadly my shop is in basingstoke and can imagine punch ups taking place over who's next etc..

Like the idea of a coffe bar within the barbering section to accomadate clients, but wouldn't want the secondary income to depend on it as there are 3 coffe shops within 300m. And over 10 in basingstoke in total.

Not sure what the mark up is on designer clothes but could look into that, or whether suppliers will offer sale or return etc or whether i'd need more capital to invest in stock ??

Keep them coming

Newsagent!

Everybody reads newspapers and magazines while they're waiting, and they're either eleven months old, or The Sun. I'd certainly pick up the odd copy of some car guff as an impulse buy.

Then you can employ paperboys who deliver newspapers, and do mobile buzz cuts.

Why not turn the 600ft into a girls salon. Get some blondes in rent the chairs out for comm and rent. Get a nail bird, a spray tan bird, then you could do mobile wedding service, hair nail skin, then you could .......deja vusmile Seriously though, would it not make sense to expand the business to unisex.

Good idea but there's far too many ladies salons in the town already...

I think the idea would work very well in say Guildford, windsor etc where there is a client base with a higher dissposable income.
I only charge between £9-£11 for a quality gents haircut, i get complaints already as to how expensive we are.
I feel creating a mens grooming salon would be a waste of outlay and time.
If your looking for gentlemens grooming(beauty treatments)(cough puf) :-) there are quite a few about but not very well marketed.

Tattoo Artist area.
Certainly not my cup-of-tea but I can think of at least 3 barbers shops in my area which have either turned into tattoo parlors or have tattoo places next door. They all seem busy too.
