Hello...

Has anybody fitted a de-cat pipe to a 156?

I've seen them advertised at a pretty low price.

If so, does it make a noticeable difference to performance/noise?

Cheers,

Darren.

Yeah I fitted one to my v6 along with a full cybox stainless steel exhaust.

Make sure you get a silenced decat, I went for the unsilenced decat and it ruined the sound. Sounded like horrid. The silenced decats sound nice. ended up giving mine away.

Didn't notice any power gains either, don't think I'd notice an extra 5 bhp tbh.

Why did it sound horrid? Currently got an unsilenced GTA, and looking to decat (and remap) soon. The decatted V6 GTV I heard sounded pretty good, but kinda loud...

Don't suppose you had any sound clips, did you?

Hi,

It totally changed the noise the car made, hard to describe but REALLY raspy at high revs/full throttle. Not a nice rasp unfortunatly. Everyone i spoke to at the time recommended the silenced decat, and even the chap selling them was a bit apprehensive selling me the unsilenced version.

Wish i would have taken their advice as re fitted the cat two weeks later and the glorious noise came back. The Cybox stainless i had fitted at the time had no silencers. Maybe the unsilenced decats sound better with a standard system from the cat back?

If you have a straight through exhaust on your GTA and have no means of testing either cat, i'd go for the silenced version everytime.

Too late, decat being fitted on Sat...!

Was cheap enough anyway, so I can always sell it if needed. I don't see the point of fitting a silenced decat pipe though....surely you're just replacing one restriction with another?

Fitted.

To the OP, it isn't massively louder, especially not at low RPM's, but it does scream more at the high end. No noticable performance gains, but it does seem to rev a bit more cleanly. Overall, I'm quite pleased with it, just given it that "edge" without being annoying.

Its ok, you can say "I told you so" wink

I got exactly the same metallic rasp as yourself, and as you say, its not a nice metallic rasp either. I actually thought it was vibration at first, until the garage told me otherwise.

Its strange though, I only get it in the mid-range of the revs on full throttle. Lower down, or right at the upper range (5.5+) its fine.

Ah, worth a try though and like you said not that expensive.

BMC carbon airboxes sound delicious, I'll guarantee that! Sod to fit mind.
