I'm organising a meeting for the team I work with. 10 people will be decending on Leeds from all corners of the contry and I want to show them a reet good Yorkshire time starting with a Curry.
Can anyone recommend a good curry emporium in Leeds centre? It will be a Tuesday night of that's any help.

This is not going to be a lot of help but I went to a place in the center of Leeds that served the biggest Nan Breads in the world. Can't seem to recall what the food was like as I had a few beers on board but I am sure it was fine.

Akbars do those massive naan breads that come on something like a clothes dryer.

I've never had a bad curry there, id say it was a safe bet personally.

Whats the Aagrah like anyone? The one near me is ace, but never been to the one in town? Anyone? I would hope its also quite good.

There are so many that I cant keep up or list. Never had a bad curry in Leeds at all. But then I love curry.

Most of the "big" curry names have opened up in Clarence Dock by the Armouries now. Probably good for a large party of guests. There was never anything down that way when I lived there for a short period of time unfortunately.

For central town, Greek Street must be the ideal.

Akbars is fine, but of the places I've eaten, the best curry house in Leeds is the Bengal Brasserie on Burley Road. Best service, interesting menu and their Murg Khandari is the best Indian dish I've ever eaten.

As an avant garde choice, how about Hansa's? It's a vegetarian place but unlike any other Indian I've been to - completely awesome food.

I love Aagrah, is Shabab still going?

That used to be my fave place when I lived in Yorkshire.

Aagrah by the play house is excellent I think just shades it.
Also you can have a drink in Wardrobe first.

Another vote for Akbars either Greek Street or the Headrow one. The Bradford one is always really good so those two can't be bad smile

I've been in a couple of times but I get takeaway from there fairly regular. The food is good but one thing I would say though is not to go buy their chilli rating for hotness. If you don't like it hot then ask specifically for a mild curry.

Book in advance as it's always been busy anytime I turn up in my scruffy jeans to collect my dinner. You can always stop off at The Wardrobe for a pint before or after too.

Ive had my only ever two bad curries from Ahkbars.....wont ever go again.

Been to both Bradford and Leeds ones.

For me its a small journey to Bradford and go to the Kashmir on Morley street. Best curry house in the world and very god value.

Sod Leeds city centre and head towards the Aagrah in Shipley! The buffet there is fantastic, 11.95 a head. If you do stay in the city centre than akbars and aagrah are the standard issue places to go to, nothing amazing though

I would vote for the Agraah. Not quite as central as Akbar but a more extensive menu, and will cater for all tastes (strength). I recently visited Akbar's with some friends, one of whom asked for something mild as he was a curry beginner, what they recommended was quite hot (I tasted it) and put him off somewhat.

Oh, and Akbars don't serve Bitter - so that's not very bloody Yorkshire is it! beer

I'd go for Aagrah over Akbars. Akbars seems to have got too big for itself.

Hansas is a good option if you want something different.

Akbars is pretty average in my opinion, most of the curries are obnoxiously bright colours too, puts me off somewhat why they feel the need to put bright red food colouring in them? It's usually very very busy too...

The food at the Aagrah is much more authentic, good portions and great value, never lets you down!

Cafe guru is really good too http://www.cafeguru.co.uk/ , one of the nicer venues for a curry in Leeds and great service.

As also mentioned the food at Hansa's is very good but it's vegetarian only so not to everybody's tastes
