No deals on 2yr+ M3 Coupes
Discussion
Ok so after a whole day ringing around I cant find a dealer who will knock more than 500 quid off a car! (and include the infamous full tank of fuel). Is there some sort of secret pact between dealers not to discount? The AUC cars in question have all been there since early December. Are people actually walking in off the streets and paying sticker price!? I recall buying an ex demo X3 this time last year with 3k discount.
This could be viewed as a mindless rant but I need to vent my frustration because I was all set to put the wheels in motion today!

By not going into the dealer it appears you're showing little commitment towards the car they have for sale so in the dealers mind you're a time waster or they don't want to give their best price because they know you're ringing around other dealers or they're just typical arrogant BMW salesmen. Probably a bit off all three. This could be viewed as a mindless rant but I need to vent my frustration because I was all set to put the wheels in motion today!

Prices have dropped considerably over the past few months on AUCs. I'd echo the comment about going in and sitting down with them. I found the few dealers I spoke to rather sensible about it all. They had their sticker price, I had what I wanted to pay. We just couldn't meet at a point I was happy with. They did budge from the sticker price though and by more than £500.
Use the fact that you can buy a new Edition with DCT/EDC/pretty much everything else (so over £60k list) for £50-51k as your leverage?

alot of the large dealers will have written down the value of stock they hadn't sold at the end of last year by alot more than jsut bookdrop, as their accountant may well advise..to fit the end of year accounts - having done this in the new year they often discount less and make the item of stock look like it's made greater profits (thanks to the write down).
I cant see its confidence but rather arrogance.. none of these cars have moved (that I have noticed) in weeks. Maybe I take it for granted that people have a right to expect a deal on a 37k car! On the showroom thing I was quite clear that if there is room for negotiation I will come in and sign up quick but no-one has shown any willing yet... I refuse to waste hours of my weekend time going nowhere fast.
I was mainly interested to see if anyone else here is negotiating deals at the moment..
The thing that doesnt help my cause is my local dealer sold a 57 reg car for 33k in Dec 08 and over a year later theres nothing near that price for the same age car!

You dont do buisness over the phone, if you are genuine they would want to discuss a deal sat face to face and over a cup of coffee.
prices are firm, i've been keeping my eye on them for 3 months, they were selling around early nov, however like you say the list (or the local ones to me) has changed much at all since then
unfortunately my cars worth so little i can't justify the 15k gap for a car the same age, same milage and similar performance!

When I used to sell cars, I would be very reluctant to discuss discounts with anyone over the phone. The problem is that they fear you will hang up and ring the next dealer and play them off against eachother. If they can get you in the drivers seat and get you to fall in love with the car, you are more likely to buy it.
I would suggest you find a the best car in terms of what fits with your budget and what appears good value then go into that dealer. When your there explain your intention is to leave a deposit that day (with someone), then start the negotiations. If you walk after telling them your intentions to buy they will be on the phone in no time. Also rememmber your buying a top end car, so price is not the only consideration. Admittedly you want the best price, but the car and your confidence in the seller is important as well.
Now go and buy a car!!
Hope this helps.

I am considering selling my 2007 (57) Coupe in White with 9,500 miles on the clock. Sytner Leicester have offered me, within £500, what I paid for it back in March last year. Good money for well spec'd cars in the right colour!!!;)
If you're interested, we could do a deal via Sytner or talk privately?

well if they are offering 36k for a 57 plate - 9.5k miles car then they can't have much profit in these ones:If you're interested, we could do a deal via Sytner or talk privately?

both are about the same age as yours but more miles, for around the 36-37k mark, if they put yours up at over 38k its gonna be looking expensive on the forcort.. 2k profit? before negotiation... this is perhaps why the OP can't get much more than £500 discount!
Am I wrong to say this but some BMWs are over-priced right now? 335i SE 2006 models going for £20-22k? Retained about 57-60% of their value, surely 50% is more like it for 3 years.
M3's are in the same boat. The prices are too high for these M3s, there simply is not enough depend. The same cars are on sale for months on end. At some point the prices will have to drop... if they don't then buyers will simply not buy?
Facelift for the M3 and 335i coupe due next year. Prices will drop soon enough! New engine too for the 335i!
