Not even sure this is a saying as my ex was pretty fking thick to say the least.
She always used to say this when something/someone done something mad/a bit random/strange or whatever.

"As nutty as a fruit cake"

I mean, what the fk does that mean? - yes she did get the piss taken out of her for it (rightly or wrongly?).

Anyone else come across sayings from others which make absolutely no sense what so ever.

hehe same here......common phrase? she is the only person I have heard say it.

I know fruit cakes have nuts in (should have mentioned that) but its not exactly very nutty is it? considdering the rest of the ingredients and why would you think of fruit cake if you wanted nuts?

Well, "as raisiny as a fruitcake" would just sound silly.

And google only brings up 224,000 results for the exact phrase.

I had no idea it was that obscure.

How? Do people ever say anyone is 'raisiny' anyway?

That should have been:

'Nuttier than a squirrel's fart...'

I assume that because a fruit cake is expected to have fruit in it, so a nutty fuit cake would be, like mad, yeah?

Oh, and I've heard the saying fking billions of times smile

Now, calling something unusual or unexpected "Random", that is odd...

I'm not disputing that, but how often do our quaint phrases actually make sense?

For example, how often have you actually, literally been "over the moon"? There are only a handful of Apollo astronauts and Soviet Cosmonauts who can truly attest to that and yet it's a very common phrase.

Maybe we should make our own saying to make it make more sense.

"As nutty as squirrel st"

"As nutty as something with a high proportion of nuts in it, in relation to the overall mix of ingredients"

"As nutty as, well, a load of nuts"

Not quite as catchy, are they?

Don't go changing the subject. That belongs in the "Words that are banned" or "Things that annoy you beyond reason" threads.

This thread is exclusively reserved for taking the piss out of WorAl.

Are some nuts not fruits? And fruit and nut whilst in my eyes an awful combo, seems to work, fruit and nut bars? wink
