Hi folks - I'm a first time poster to this forum, so apologies if I'm asking a question about a subject which has already been covered recently.

Basically, my X5 (2003 53 plate 3.0l Diesel Sport Auto) died on me just before Christmas. My garage informed me that it needed a new gearbox (well, salvage or reconditioned gearbox, because I can't afford to buy a brand new gearbox!). I have been struggling to find a replacement reconditioned gearbox, so the next option is to find a suitable garage/transmission specialist who can recondition my current gearbox.

What I'd like to know - can anyone recommend a garage/transmission specialist who's; a) got good positive feedback b) does a good job, c) is a reasonable price.

I've tried various gearbox search engines. I've had some replies, but when I've done a bit of research, I've found a number of the places quick to return a quote tend to have really dodgy feedback on various forums.

I'm based in NE Scotland, but any recommendations will be considered, as the dead gearbox is ready to be couriered South.

Help!
