Aldershot to Waterloo, How much?
Discussion
My smallest has an appointment at Great Ormond in Feb.
We live in Sheffield but F in L is in Aldershot so our plan is to drive to Aldershot the night before and get the train into London the next morning to avoid ahving to park/pay congestion charge.
Looked on TheTrainline.com and it quotes cheapest day return as £34!
That would be nearly £70 for the 2 of us + underground/taxi to Great Ormond.
Are there any cheaper alternatives? Maybe drive closer and get the train from just outside the congestion zone.

It's quite a big car park actually so I don't think you'd have a problem. Check out swtrains website for costs, I'm sure it's listed there.
There is a bit of street parking at 40p/hr but it's a maximum of 4 hours. If you park a little further away in residential streets then you could park for free, but it would be a little walk to the station.

With a Network Railcard (33% off) a Travelcard is about 15 quid from Aldershot, so I'd think that an adult "normal" would probably be just over 20 quid.
Kid's ticket would be cheaper than that.
If you are likely to do more journeys like this, in the southeast, it could be worth getting a Network Railcard, which last for a year and costs £25 - but it gives you a third off tickets for you and up to 3 other adults/kids, but there are some minimum fares during the week....

We'll be travelling at about 10am. So it would be possible to drive to Surbiton and get a train into Waterloo for £7.20 ea + £10 parking?
Sounds better that nearly £70.
Just looked and its just off the A3 which is ideal.
Does the car park get full?
West Byfleet. £3 to park all day & around £16.50 per adult for an off peak (after 9:30am) travelcard (i.e. includes all the tubes you need all day). Fast trains (1 stop) take about 30 minutes to Waterloo, twice an hour at 27 & 57 minutes past the hour. First off peak train is therefore the 9:57.Sounds better that nearly £70.

DO NOT buy tube tickets with cash in London - its about £4.50 PER PERSON PER JOURNEY now.
Allow 15 minutes from parking the car to being on the platform - car park is a long affair that runs down the side of the railway track & at that time you will be down towards the far end - but there are always spaces.

This is a one off journey and we just need a day return, 9.57 train will be ideal, gets in at 10.30, leave loads of time until our appointment at 13.45. Might be able to take in a few sites as well.
What about the return journey? Is the Travelcard valid for certain times in the evening. Its a bit uncetain when we will be catching the return. It might be any time between 4 and 6pm.

The £34 mentioned in the OP must be a peak fare; too much for off-peak.
Wait, wait I've just realised that I put in 2 adults travelling DOH!So that £17.50 each not too bad I suppose

Do you know if I can get the Travelcard which includes the underground if I travel from Aldershot?

Most of us Aldershot residents are so keen to leave town that they can name their price for tickets
Wife is from Aldershot originally, her Dad still lives there so have had a few 'interesting' nights out especially with my ex squaddie brother in law.
Its not too bad where he lives and has a decent pub exactly 105 paces from his front door.
It was one of his criteria when he was house hunting a few years back, I think he wanted a max of 200 paces
