Victoria Derbyshire this morning

Fast forward to 6mins in.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00psy9t/Vict...

My boiling began when he was asked what nationality he was, and he hyphenated -British.

Now keep listening and discover it isn't his first crime/offence, so it isn't a second chance, but the third, he knew he was carrying drugs, his marriage and child all begin while in prison and after he was aware that deportation was a possibility.

After 25mins, I had to switch it off. You break the law, against our community and then do it again and again, why should we feel we have to keep you, we have plenty of our own criminals thank you very much.

This is the EU Human Rights Act for you, the UK can't deport him... More and more I think we should leave the EU Human Rights Act.

(Skip the crap and get to 7 minutes. wink )

Hm. "Asian-British"? Why does he not have a British passport? He's not British. I'm Chinese but have a British passport. Therefore, I am British.

Haha he was happy with trafficking cannabis but not heroine. nuts

As the crime list is announced, I can almost hear her move her handbag between her feet.

No he isn't, he's Asian.

If you buy a Toyota made in Japan does it become a British car after a while, even if it doesn't break the law?

He's not married and not a holder of a Britsh Passport, he may call himself Asian British, but thats because he's been reading too many of those forms where thats a box you can tick, without understanding what it truly means. That in my book means he is simply a foreign citizen with leave to remain (I assume)

he commited a crime, he isn't a citizen here and so is an undesirable alien and should be kicked out.

being a citizen of a country makes you subject to its rules for bad or good but it also offers you their protection, no questions asked.

Not being a citizen means that you are not expected to abide by all the rules but then some of the protections of a citizen are forfeited too.

I think the Chinese solution to heroin dealers would have sorted this little problem out.

If I understood what I heard in the interview he started his serious relationship with his partner, while in prison, and had the child after his release from prison, by which time he had quite coincidentally been made aware that as a convicted drug smuggler, of transporting £200K of Heroin (I wonder how many UK children's lives that might have destroyed), that even as a model prisoner, that he was not a British citizen he was in line for deportation.

Piddle steam...

Would a trebuchet on Land's End be a reasonable method of deportation?

So what you're saying is that because he doesn't have a bit of paper that says he's British, he isn't British? Despite having lived here for all but three years of his life?

Absolutely he's not British. His nationality is pakistani.

He presumably knew what would happen when he was caught drug smuggling, now he should pay the price. In his case that includes deportation. If he didnt want to be deported, he didnt have to break the law (not just once, numerous times!)

Ah I see. So Britishness is not defined by actions, or language, or culture - but by where your parents were born, and a piece of paper.

In your world, Britishness is defined by birthplace and bureaucracy then. That must mean that Jesus was a sheep.

Only a complete idiot would spring to the defence of this piece of st.

If someone is born here we are stuck with them, if they are not and we have a way out why not take it?

He was quite happy to supply drugs and fluk up countless lives, why worry so much about ruining his life.

Human rights laws serve no purpose in this country other than making a few lawyers better off.

I'm surprised he hasn't used bi-polar disorder to explain his propensity for criminal behaviour, though i supposed that only works if you're in another country where the laws aren't fair and all that ..

If a dog is born in a stable does it become a horse?

Clearly this guy isn't british. We offered him shelter provided he abided by the rules. He knew the consequences of his actions and decided the risk was worth taking.

Now that he's lost the bet he's squealing the life isn't fair? Tough st.
