Hi,

I've just bought a 1:18 993 model 911. I want to respray it to look like my own car.

What is the easiest way to remove any decals (porsche badge, side indicators etc.) but also so that they can be reapplied to the car with its new paint job? Or is it even possible to do this without ruining the decal?

cheers

I can't think of any way of getting decals off a model without damaging them beyond repair.

May be the best option is to strip the model back to bare metal, respray and have some new decals made up.

How old are they?

You could try steaming them off?

I had some water stickers a while back that kept falling off I used a very thin coat of wood glue to stick them on in the end and they looked fine.

Is this a die-cast model?

What you're describing sounds a lot like tampo printed decals, which are effectively paint. You'll not remove them for re-use. I'm afraid the best/only option in that case is to reapply new decals.

For removing plastic lenses and glued in indicators (that aren't printed), lighter fluid is a good glue softener.

Ask the manufacturer if it is possible to buy a set of decals for the model.

I used to get free ones from BBurago, just asked for them.
