ks - I just want to play my 'own' game - when I mean 'Own' - I own it.
Steam is playing silly buggers - I bought the 2 disks, I own the game - I can't play it because Steam seems to think that I'm already signed in - I'm not, and all I want to do is play the game that I spent close fifty quid on.

ked off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It has taken me nearly an hour just to to think that in another hour I may be allowed to play my own game.

It was playing fine for the last week and now Steam has decided that it is going to fk me up.
I'm never going to buy another game for PC - Simply not worth it.

After 3 downloads and Steam was still the issue - I've had enough.
The disks have gone in the bin - I will not play this game again and I will only ever buy games for the xbox.
I will write to Steam and let them know what an appauling experience I've had - I will also write to the developers and say the same.
Why can I not play my own game?
I went to the shop and spent xxx and it's mine.
It's not Steam's, it's not the developers, or the publisher's or the bloke that made the disk...
It is mine! If I choose to go online, that's my perogotive - what if all I wanted to do was to the solo/single player game - my choice.

I absolutely LOVE steam!
It's brilliant! I've had a couple issues in the past, but a quickfired email to techsupport, who are very friendly, and they get sorted pretty quickly.

Ummm - actually no. You bought physical media (discs that you own) and a license to use the software on them. You do not own the game - it is not yours - you simply bought the right to play it. I went to the shop and spent xxx and it's mine.

If you were in breach of the terms of the license (and I a not saying you are!!) and Steam were enforcing that, then it would be doing exactly what it is meant to do.
Try calling the support line...

I'm sure if you took a few minutes and explained the problem here, there would be an easy solution.
I've never had any problems with steam, at least I've never had one that couldn't be solved.
With regards to uninstalling steam, yes it will remove all the things you've downloaded/installed.
If you don't want it to, you copy the steamapps folder from the steam install directory, then paste that back in when you've reinstalled steam.
With regards to the person who commented on how long it takes to download a game, thats nothing to do with steam, thats your internet connection. Or it could be because there was just recently a huge sale and everyone might be downloading. You can try changing your download server if its that slow.

I bought the flying game, Wings of Prey, and afterwards discovered it installed Starforce anti piracy software on my system, and the game can only be activated three times!
I thought the whole reason for using Steam was the fact that anti piracy software was not needed, and the games are always specific to your Steam account!
(Not too impressed with the controller options for the game, as it turned out - no mapped X-Box controller or Microsoft Sidewinder controls - and mapping is mad!

If you use up your activations you just contact them for more. Same thing as rFactor. I don't think it's actually Starforce either, it's a new DRM that doesn't interfere on the client side like StarForce did. I have read that the developers may release a Steam patch to remove it. I don't mind too much, but I own 6 PC's (both in the UK and Italy), and have Steam on five of them (essential for Plants Vs Zombies & Defence Grid!) - I was just surprised there was a 3 PC activation limit when Steam, by its nature, doesn't need anti piracy measures as draconian - but as you say, it's downloaded not from Steam servers - something I didn't know.What concerns me more is having an update to make the controller configs a little more 'user-friendly', as I cannot play the game properly until then..(I thought it would be more or less the same as IL2)
I've only tried the demo (no DRM on that) and found the controller setting up fiddly but as a once only it worked fine with my Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas joystick, although I think I had to reverse a couple of axis. But then the game is written by Russians so maybe something got transposed in translation
I have had a couple of problems with steam but mainly due to buying the physical media and installing/activating. Everything I've bought through steam has worked with no problems.
MW2 caused the most problems - but in the end that was solved with a simple reboot (out of desperation) .
