Hi all,

I have recently purchased a 56 320d M Sport, however the original owner obviously never specified the Bluetooth option for mobile phone compatibility.

Can the BMW Bluetooth be installed as an aftermarket kit or whatever using the 'phone' icon on the stereo.....or will it have to be a Parrot kit now?

Any help appreciated.

It is possible to retrofit the bluetooth but it's not that easy and depends alot on the spec of your car.

If you search on google there are a few sites that discuss it..

As post above it can be done but at a major cost. Parrots are surely the best after-market option for compatability, price and performance. (I say that 'cos I have had both and the BMW bluetooth is overrated IMO).

Have a look here. I think the third item down is what you're looking for. This has full integration with the MFSW and if it's the same as the MINI kit, the microphone can be mounted behind the grill near the rear view mirror, as per the factory bluetooth.

You can always give Mike Wildman a call at NewMiniStuff, and he'll tell you exactly what you need.

HTH.

Thanks for the info guys.

I used the BMW bluetooth on a 1 series i had as a company car.....was ok, not as good as functional as a Parrot kit though, i just wanted the BMW kit purely for vanity and not needing to having anything stuck onto the dash.

Think im looking at about £250 fully fitted for a Parrot which isnt too bad.

If that's your only concern, you need a Parrot CK3000 Evolution. This has no screen to stick on the dash, just a small controller which you use to start and end calls and adjust the volume. I have one and it works a treat, cost around £90 and fitted it myself.

That does look good, can you cycle through the phone book with that??

I am a bit of a technical retard, fitting it would be well beyond me.

No, the CK3000 Evo doesn't allow that like the 3100 does, although it does support voice commands which work really well. I wanted as stealth an installation as I could get, so this seemed like a good compromise.

Plus, I'm really not a fan of the 3100's brightly lit monochrome display. Colour screens are available of course, but obviously you pay more.

So would the fully integrated kit as the Mini uses have any extra displays / modules need fitting to the existing setup.....or would it be 'fully intergrated' i.e nothing externally on the dash??

Thanks

From the information on the website, it looks like it's all fully intergrated, using the MFSW buttons rather than an external controller like the Parrot. It's not clear though whether this kit enables you to scroll through your address book using the stereo display like you can on the factory bluetooth. I'd advise giving Mike at NewMiniStuff a buzz or drop him an email to clarify this.

You should also consider the Parrot MKi9000 if you want a discreet installation. It has a wireless remote control and also automatically syncs your phonebook. To call someone, you press the green button and say the name (or you could scroll through the phonebook and it reads out the names to you)
