Blame the Met Office. The councils followed their long term forecast for the winter (wet and mild) based on the theory of global warming climate change.

Then the councils thought that just-in-time deliveries for salt, in order to keep the roads open, was a good idea. Typical short-sighted public sector thinking!

Sky News featured a councillor from Harrow who was angry that her salt supplies weren't arriving, when she ordered them after the bad weather started. She clearly couldn't do joined up thinking where if there were no supplies between her and Cheshire either, then the salt wouldn't get through (or there wouldn't be enough).

When the snow first hit before Christmas I was talking to an OnTime recovery driver in the traffic.

He said they had a severe weather warning a month before it hit and gritted privately all their own yards.

No, blame the councils, The Met Office are not the only source of weather information, it's up to the councils to choose their information source wisely.

People keep saying this but everyone knows that climate change is going to disrupt the gulf and jet streams which moderate uk weather. Climate change will give us weather which is similar to the european continental weather which is colder and snowier.

Instantly disproved, there are people on here who don't know, and appropriately so as the content presented is fiction.

Does road grit go 'off'? What's wrong with keeping 10 or 12 days of it aside from the space it takes up?

Apparantly, yes. Something to do with moisture levels in it. It can be re processed though, I have been told.
