Normally most of my threads are fairly light-hearted but this one isn't.

Bit of commotion round the flats last night police cars and all, thought it might have been the usual stuff about one of the grannies getting lost etc.
But no it was to do with Bob. Nice guy Bob, always says hello, was our ex-company secetary (quit recently), worked for one of the airlines in training, spends a lot of time out of the country as well as doing shift work that meant he can be away for a couple of weeks. Single, wouldn't say I was friends with him but pleasant enough guy, 54.....

DEAD.

He was last seen on Tuesday night driving his car in just when the snow was really getting bad. BiB said they think either the stress of driving home in it or perhaps he had to push his car or shovel some snow gave him a heart attack later in the night.
So does that mean he was found tucked up in bed a week after he'd died? Yep.

Obiviously a lot of guilt being felt around here today, so it might be an idea to check on people who aren't quite what you would normally think might have had trouble. Bob had asthma so he wasn't 100% fit but even so you wouldn't expect him just to go like that.

Not good & makes you think.

A sad tale. Fortunately the elderly couple who live next door to us have their son dropping in quite a lot. I was a bit concerned how they'd get on with the recent weather.

frown Poor bloke, but it happens more often than you think frown

Weirdly I had the idea that I was going to start a thread today to see how long you thought it would take for you to be found if you died at home.

Nasty.

I knocked on the doors of a few oldies in my street this morning to see if they needed any supplies. One woman, who no-one really knows hasn't been seen for a while. Her neighbour thought she may be away. I knocked on her door and got no answer. She doesn't drive, is a bit frail and often has taxis turning up to take her places, but none have been seen recently.

After hearing the above I'll go back later and make a bit more of an effort to establish if she's there or not.

Go on, be a man, kick the door in.

Our neighbours haven't bothered checking up on us, the lazy sods

and they haven't bothered taking in their newspapers either

I looked in through the letterbox and the old git was sleeping in the hall, must have been drunk or something

some people, eh?

Great. I'm gonna have people knocking on my door every day to see if I'm still alive or not.

Another sad example here

Keep an eye out for your neighbours, especially the elderly ones.

My elderly neighbours are fine - they're clever enough not to bother opening the door in these cold months, they haven't even bothered to come out to collect the milk or papers for 2 weeks.

The above is just a joke and I know that it is very sad in these times when older people cannot cope - don't flame me.

Couple of days before christmas last year I was walking the dogs.
Walked past Madge's house (next door but 2) and noticed the light wasn't on and it was starting to get dark. She was in her 70s and didn't go out much.
Took the dogs home, went back to knock on the door to see if she was ok.
Was met by her next door neighbour who had already called the police as Madge's little dog was barking constantly.
Police arrived within 15 minutes, broke the door in. Madge had died in the livin room.
She wasn't yet cold.

This christmas, Peter, in his 80s, 2 doors away the other direction, died in his sleep. Was noticed first thing in the mornin by his neighbour.

So in answer to the original question, round here, if yer old and die at home, you'll be found in a couple of hours.

yes

Very important to do this. We've been checking up on the olds that live in the flats where we were renting a few years ago to make sure that they are all okay.

It isn't something that you should only be looking at in the winter though.

Last year we had to visit a house on an estate where it had taken 6 weeks+ (according to the Dr.) for anyone to check if old Bert was okay...
