Looking for a uPVC back door for the kitchen and everywhere seems to only sell inward opening doors, we want an outward opening door is there any reason why they all sell inward ones?

Is there any reason not to have an outward opening door?

Never heard that before, they should supply a door opening in or out, you tell them what you want and they'll make it. No reason not to have one opening out, I've supplied and fitted several.

I recently ordered a kitchen door to open out, no problem.

As standard though, external doors seem to open inwards - perhaps so you don't smash visitors in the face with them!

That would explain it. Because the likes of Wicks buy and sell in bulk they'll only sell the most popular sizes and styles. You'd still get a similar price at your local manufacturers.

I prefer outward opening doors, preferably part-glazed so you don't knock out callers when you open it. They free up space inside, the frame reveal makes them more water-tight and if a scrote tries to shoulder one open, all they get is a bruise.

If you buy a outward opening door get a hinge restrictor fitted in the head of the door saves the wind ripping the door off.
Also get hinge bolts fitted too hinges more vunerable to attack as there on the outside.

Any double glazing company will do you an outward opening door! They just put the drain holes on the other side of the cill.

Likes of Wickes and B&Q just don't bother because of the volume of sales.

We bought a PVC door with an aluminium cill. gives a very low threshold so it is easier to sweep out the kitchen. These will fit either way and in fact I fitted ours opening out for the reasons you mention.

I've just had an half glazed, outward opening back door fitted to my new place, frees up loads of room in the kitchen and no-one comes to the back door anyway.

Was made to measure and fitted by a local window company for 485
