As it says really.

My (half mental) aunt wants a puppy, specifically a brown standard poodle.

Has anyone got any contacts/friends etc who are involved in such a thing/ Or indeed know where the aforementioned may be available from??

Cheers in advance

Can't really help but my poo is fairly standard, not to mention brown. Mostly.

+1. It will ask what breed you are after and let you know of breeders. Most brown dogs are referred to as chocolate, though I don't know if that is the case for poodles.

Curious, lots of colours for poodles, why does it have to be brown?

eta - Google poodles and you'll find a site dedicated to standard poodles, maybe a good starting point.

i have a black standard poodle, found the breeder on the kennel club website. You could also try google standard poodle breeders as this should bring some up in your area, i think there is an poodle dog club but i can not remember the name. Preferably you want someone that is KC registered as poodles can have some health problems and if nothing else the breeder will have all the puppies thoroughly checked by a vet and will also accept the puppy back if your aunt should change her mind or find it too much.

As an aside i would mention to your aunt that poodles are very active, very intelligent and quite possessive. I have also known a few nasty poodles but i have always thought this was more down to the owner than the dog. Our poodle is also incredibly mental, at 6 years old she is showing no signs of living a quiet life. Be prepared for this. Also a poodle coat needs brushing every day, because they do not shed their fur it must be brushed out or else it will get knotty and this will be very uncomfortable for the dog and can cause skin conditions. The dog will need grooming (ie coat cutting) every 6 - 8 weeks at the most, this should be started as soon as possible to get the dog used to it otherwise it will be a nightmare to groom. A good groomer will start brushing and bathing a dog from about 4 months onwards, this is even for a normal coat not a show coat. Expect to pay around £40 -£80 depending on the dog groomer for this, if you pay less chances are the groomer isn't qualified.

i realise your aunt may know all this but they are not a low maintenance dog but the rewards are massive, ours make us laugh and smile so many times a day with her antics.

If you have anymore questions or want some help just let me know.

thanks folks!!!- especially bananaface.

Aunt has had dogs since I was a nipper, she had a beautiful labradoodle previously, but now would like a standard.

She is well aware of the needs- is at home all day now and shoots/walks etc.
