I'm off to the Isle Of Wight in April, fancied trying a little sea fishing so I have cought a 3.6m telescoping rod, cheap(ish) real, some 15lb line, lures and some "rubbery eal lure type things".

Are there any really good spots for a real amature top have a go at sea fishing on the island?

Probably have more luck if you try the wet stuff that surrounds the island. Just a thought ;-)

Sorry, couldn't resist

When I used to live there as a kid we used to fish off St Helens beach for Bass,Plaice & Dabs which are similar and always used to catch our dinner.

Went back about 10 yrs ago with my young sons and did the same thing to see if things have changed much, we still caught fish but not in the same quantity.
Also went and got Cockles on the same beach again, that was/is still the same

The various piers around the Island people go fishing off plus the big sea walls at Ryde & Cowes.

These days you can also buy bait from the tackle shops, Ragworm & Lugworm but not as good as when freshly dug by yourself

Best of luck

Lots of fishing around the Island, I'm a boater in the area but not keen on fishing, get your self onto a fishing forum.

Some trip boats run out of Yarmouth and it is lovely there.

There are some good spots! Yarmouth Pier is popular and you can usually catch something off of there. Check out http://www.beachandboat.co.uk/index.cgi for some inside info wink

Hopefully the weather will be better than when I last went hehe
