I am thinking of buying a small flat (2/3 bedrooms) to live in during the winter months in Marbella or somewhere in South of France.

I would probably let it out for a month or two when I am not there.

Any recommendations as to which is more preferable? (ex pat community, investment opportunity, letting, nightlife etc and general quality of life)

Thanks in advance.

I don't know the south of France that well, but that would be my preference. Marbella? Extremely tacky and mostly full of pissed up chavs, regardless of their wealth although there are plenty of British people there which may appeal. Have you thought about Antibes? Much nicer and far classier, although I suspect property may be pricier there.

Friend of mine retired to Southern France. In the hills about 30 kms from Beziers. Fantastic part of the world and plenty of Brits in the area without the feeling of being over-run. I've been down there a couple of times and it is a fantastic area and lifestyle.

I have a house in Cap Martin. The entire cote d'azur is set up for spring / summer. In the winter time it is a bit miserable to be honest. And the weather can be dreadful too. If it is for the winter months and you want sunshine then you need to go further south.
