I have been told that my Griff 500 has 3 cats also that i can remove the 2 small ones for improved sound, performance is the true ?? any advice greatfully received.

There is a precat in each manifold and then the main cat in the Y-piece. You can remove the pre-cats and still pass an MOT. It will make it a bit loader and might give a very small increase but nothing significant. You can also remove the main cat but it is better to get a replcaement or second Y piece because you will need it for MOT's.

There are a few threads on here about removing the precats. It's not a nice job.

Have been considering removing the pre-cats recently. Am I right in thinking it will reduce under bonnet temperatures or is this a myth ?

Yes, all the cats get very hot so the more of them you remove, the better.

Just for your interest, below are temp readings before and after removing all three cats on my Griff.

Temperatures using IR thermometer: -
Before
NS pre cat area = 280c
OS pre cat area = 290c
Main cat area = 195c

After
NS pre cat area = 240c
OS pre cat area = 220c
Main cat area = 90c
