Morning all

The battery on my M5 drained over Christmas and I had to borrow my sister's jump leads in order to get the car started (oooh the shame that she had the gear and I didn't).

Anyhoo, is there a recommended minimum for appropriate jumpleads (ie ampage or whatever - I'm not technical) or will any standard set from fleabay do the job?

FWIW my sister's set seemed to be very cheap but did the job perfectly.

Thanks

ben

I'd have said pretty much any 'heavy duty' set with a 4gauge or bigger cable should do.

I got mine for a halfords-type place a few years ago for around £25, they are massive cable gauge and have never struggled to start big stuff.

Thanks

Get yourself one of these: CTEK-Multi-XS3600-12V-Battery-Charger, which you can leave conneted all the time when not in use. Switches on and off automatically when needed. Also check it's not your Blower motor resitor pack draining the battery, it's a common fault on all E39's.

Thanks for the help guys

I ended up getting a heavy duty set from ebay for £15.

I can't use a trickle charger or any charger for that matter as the car is parked away from my house and any power sockets.

Cheers
