Interesting how we gravitate to news about those closest to us (physically, geographical, religiously, cultural) more than others.

There could be 100k dead in Haiti (thats like 30 WTC attacks) and Skys top story is that one is British.

God I was so worried, there hadn't been any news of Brits killed so I hadn't given a stuff about the Haitians. Now I can be worried though.

My OH made a similar comment about the reporting around the Mirror reporter who was killed in Afghanistan - an American marine and Afghan soldier were killed along with him and barely got a mention.

However, it's hardly unsurprising - humanity is a social species so we tend to prioritise those closer to us than those we have little connection with.

Regarding Haiti- has anyone read We Did Nothing? Hilarious and tragically depressing book on hamstrung UN operations of the 90's.

Anyone see Pat Robertson on US news blaming Vodoo?

His jist was.....when the Haitians were all slaves they sacrificed a pig and rose up against the white masters (pretty much true).....they won because of a deal this sacrifice struck with the devil and have been cursed ever since (possibly less true)

Nice to see its not just the Muslims that have the nut jobs!
