Rough running

This is a general question about high performance cars.

The Nob runs a bit rough when it is cold and when it is warmed up runs fine, the wifes exige is horrible when it is cold but again lovely once warmed up.

Is this something that goes with the territory of sports cars?

High performance engines are usually the other way round as they are rich when cold so run smooth, but lean when hot so run a bit rough.

check to see if your lambda sensors have failed

have you checked the emissions ? an MOT centre can do it for you

Its only a bit "unsmooth", nothing at all major, her last exige was exactly the same.
It was MOT'd on Weds and the lamda was 1.03 what ever that means.

I have just been out in it the Nob and literally after a mile its as it should be

Could be the Lamda sensors, I got my oxygen sensors replaced, DIY job using Bosch universal, if they are faulty car can run a bit ropey at low rpm.
Not sure if Lambda sensors need to warm up before they start working optimally?

Cold weather might be making the oil viscosity a bit thick until warmed up?
I'm only guessing though.

Out of interest what should the lamda readings be?

lambda 1 or near

the throttle stop may need a small tweak to get the car to idle correctly

something that should have been done at the first factory services and may have been forgotton

Mine was the same felt like it was running a touch rich when cold but sorted itself out after a couple of miles .

depends on the engine, the more advanced/developed the engine the less it will do this cause the sensors and ECU will be able to compensate... my M3 is much higher tune than a noble and runs smooth cold or hot... in comparison my Ultima with its SBC would bearly run when cold.
