Hi all,

about 2 years ago i bought a computer froma small indipendant. I have upgraded most of it, and recently I bought a CD-R to put in it (underneath the DVD player). Unfortunantly my case uses these two srping-loaded sliders either side of the driver to attach it to the case.

I telephoned the people I bought the machine from, who said that they don't use them any more, however its company policy not to tell me where I can get them. And no, they won't buy two then sell them onto me.

They are metal pieces, about 12cm long, 2cm side. They attach to the driver via screws, then push into the case. The spring clips (at the front) hold the drive in place, and can be pushed together to release it.

Any ideas??

Sorry but there are loads of different designs for these. Unless you know the manufacturer of the case or can post a pic of one of the originals you're probably not going to get very far.

Or you could put yourself in bodge mode and use anything to hand to get the drive to fit

there are these external housing units which will take a cdrom and make it *external*.

...but found the cheapest one on google was $80 !

so its not worth it unless you can find one on ebay or elsewhere. The only alternative is to buy a new case I'm afraid ! But a decent expandable case can now be had for £30 ! Probably a better buy

sorry !

You should be able to pick up a full-sized tower for a lot less than that. I bought one just after Christmas for £26. It has five full sized bays (for CD-ROMs etc), two smaller bays (for floppy or zip drives)and five hard drive bays. Not sure how or when I'd ever need that lot, but you never know! It's a steel case and came pre-fitted with power unit, all power cables (internal and external), two fans, audio in/out and twin-USB sockets on the front (behind a press and click cover) and some glitzy neons.

Try the next computer fair that visits your area.

Being honest you could pic up a new case for around £20

If you spend around £50 you could get yourself a nice coloured case
