OK - litte frustrated here -

spent the last couple of hours getting some projects in iPhoto (picture books of the first three months of our son) that i tried to order for my grandparents.

After numerous attempts - i still go through to complete the order and get a mail from apple tellngg me there is a problem with the files.....

after getting hacked off with this (multiple exchange of mails - no resolution as to why the publishing wasnt working - i though - 'balls, i'll use my photobucket account to get some prints done instead'

get through the selection, editing and upload of the photos that i want printed only to find that shipping - FROM THE STATES - is $20. my photobucket accont in UK registered - god knows why they dont have some sort of partner deal..... anyhows...

I need to get some prints from my laptop into my physical mailbox (and the mailbox of some elderly relatives) sometime in the next year - [b]please advise me of any simple straightforward service that allows this to happen - as the user friendly routes i have tried thus far have been, frankly, utter toilet.

Help me PH photo bods!

I'm not clear if you're trying to order single images or photobooks.

If the latter, I have links to many possible suppliers: www.blokewithacamera.co.uk/albums.htm

I've been using photobox for the last few years and they've been great, for prints and photobooks. They normally process your order overnight and ship next day, and you get emails telling you what's going on. The prices are good, the quality is good.

Watch out for the print size and cropping though, as they don't do 6"x4" by default, they use a slightly different size paper as standard which means you can lose edges of pictures.

My thought was that if he'd designed a whole photobook with lots of hi-res images, the resultant file might be too big for the system to handle. (Just a wild guess as I don't know iPhoto)

It shouldn't do that though. The way I think it works is you do all your design with your images dropping them into the pages and then when finished iPhoto creates a pdf file of the pages and the printing is just that pdf file. It certainly is a puzzle, agreed on the file sizes, maybe because it's huge (if lots of hi-res images) it's failing in the upload process somehow. I know when doing a Blurb book which I think works in a similar fashion my uploads of completed books can take an hour to an hour and a half.

I've tried various online and instore services and based on my experience I've settled on:

Photobox for prints and Blurb for books.

BTW - you can upload to Photobox from iPhoto according to the Photobox site.

I suspect that Apple have only got a deal with US printers.... certainly true of Flickr and Picasa. You'll need to upload directly to say Snapfish - not via iPhoto.

this was the mail i got back from apple:

apple support said:
Dear Tim,

Thank you for your recent order.

Unfortunately, we were unable to process your order because the files received contained data that was unreadable or otherwise unprintable. Your order has been cancelled and your credit card will not be billed.

This was caused by one of the following:

1. Upload Error. Loss of connection or file corruption during order upload may cause an incomplete order. Resubmitting your order usually resolves this issue.

2. Low Disk Space. If your computer is running on low disk space, your files may be assembled incorrectly. Create more space by deleting unused files.

3. Unreadable PDF file or image files. Files are sometimes assembled incorrectly due to CMYK or Grayscale color space. Use the RGB color space for best results.

Please make the necessary adjustments and resubmit your order for processing.
now - i've removed the offending files but still cannot ge a successful order through... definately isn't 1) or 2) above - on the formatting issue they are all files that have gone straight off the camera into iphoto - so can't imagine it would be that either...

genuinely flumoxed...

incorrect link:
Go to Home -> Monochrome -> Creative and you get weddings/christenings

What about Loxley? They seem to have a good name?

Thanks for that - by coincidence I changed the button bar shortly afterwards to a newer version - hit Refresh and see if it's better now.

As I said, you can upload from iPhoto to Photobox.

Your statement regarding Picasa is also wrong.

There is a choice of 8 UK online printers, including Photobox from Picasa.

Admittedly, that is from the Desktop software though.

Still get it and I've tried refresh

start on this page http://www.blokewithacamera.co.uk/monochrome.htm and the 'creative' link goes to weddings.

Oh right, that page! Some of my early dabbling before it got serious - try now.
